German
born, Australian-raised musician and artist Mars Lasar crafts intricate
music
by blending natural sounds (birds, rain, whalesong, wind chimes, a
lion's growl) with
tribal voices and indian, Middle Eastern, African and European influences.
Created on keyboards using a synthesizer and sampler, this rich, melodic
music is
simultaneously futuristic and ancient sounding. It is relaxing and
image-invoking, as
music of this type should be, allowing the listener to take a mental
journey to exotic places
It would make great movie music, and in fact Lasar did work on the
soundtrack "Days of
Thunder" with Hans Zimmer, work that prompted him to move to
the Uninted States.
Unlike some artists who proffer meditation albums so subtle they can
put you to sleep,
Lasar uses rhythm and tonal tension to create tracks that do not simply
float in the
background but move the listener along a journey. And on "Karma",
it's a journey
filled with rich delights to visit again and again.
